Safety Tips
Stay safe on CampusAgent
CampusAgent is designed to be a trusted space. Here are guidelines to help you transact safely — whether you're renting a room or buying a textbook.
For all users
Meet in public
Always meet buyers, sellers, or agents in a busy, well-lit public area — preferably on campus during daytime hours.
Never pay before viewing
Do not transfer any money before physically viewing a property or inspecting an item. Legitimate agents will always welcome a viewing.
Trust your instincts
If something feels off — overly low prices, pressure to decide quickly, requests to pay via unusual methods — walk away.
Report suspicious activity
Use the report button on any listing or profile if you suspect fraud. Our team reviews all reports within 24–48 hours.
For tenants & students
Verify the agent
Check for the verified badge on agent profiles. Verified agents have submitted credentials that our team has reviewed.
Inspect before you pay
Visit the property in person before paying any caution fee or rent. Take photos and note any damages.
Get a receipt
Request a written receipt for any payment made to a landlord or agent, even for a caution deposit.
Read the agreement
Ask for a tenancy agreement and read it carefully before signing. Understand the notice period and renewal terms.
For market buyers & sellers
Inspect items thoroughly
Test electronics, check for damages, and confirm the item matches the listing photos before handing over money.
Agree on a price first
Confirm the price and any conditions (delivery, accessories included) before meeting. Screenshot the conversation.
Avoid advance payments
Never pay upfront for items you haven't seen. "I'll send the item once you transfer" is a common scam tactic.
Bring a friend
Especially for high-value transactions, bring someone with you for safety and as a witness.
